GOOFBALL Fantasy Football

The Regular Season (both NFL and GOOFBALL) is over, and it is time for the playoffs!  You can follow the GOOFBALL Fantasy Football League Playoffs by clicking here.

Here is a description of which teams made it into the GOOFBALL Playoffs, and how they did it:

Gridiron Conference - Scimitar had first place wrapped up in the Moe Division several weeks ago, but Barnesie's Boyz had to win in Week 17 to claim first place in the Larry Division!  The first wild-card team was an easy choice:  Temporary Insanity with a 10-7 record.  The second was a little more interesting:  The Stooges, Hail Mary, and ...And It's Good! all have identical 8-9 records.  The Official GOOFBALL Rules state the head-to-head competition is the first tie-breaker, followed by Conference Record.  Hail Mary prevails based on a 2-1 record against ...And It's Good! and a 1-0 record against The Stooges - congratulations, Dave!

Pigskin Conference - With a 15-2 record, Fighting Fundamentalists has been a lock for the playoffs since the season-opening draft, I think.  His first-place finish in the Shemp Division was officially clinched in Week 14.  Not so in the Curly Division - after losing to The Silverback in their first two matchups, Feast or Famine won when it counted:  on the final week of the regular season!  This win clinched the first-place finish for Feast or Famine and knocked The Silverback out of the playoffs.  Spirit of St. Louis claimed the first wild-card spot in the GOOFBALL Playoffs with a 9-8 record (the only other winning record in the conference).  As in the Gridiron Conference, the second wild-card choice came down to a three-team tie between The Silverback, After Further Review and Southern Sting, all with identical 8-9 records.  Again, head-to-head competition broke the tie, as Southern Sting held a 2-1 record against After Further Review and a 1-0 record against The Silverback.  Even though Southern Sting only had a 4-9 Conference Record, three of those four wins came against the two teams he ended up tied with.  I guess it pays to win the right games!

GOOFBALL Playoffs - With the eight teams decided, the draft order for the GOOFBALL Fantasy Football League Playoffs will be:

1. Fighting Fundamentalists (Highest-ranked Division Winner from either conference)
2. Barnesie's Boyz (Highest-ranked Division Winner from remaining conference, based on win over Scimitar in Week 14)
3. Scimitar (Second-Highest-ranked Division Winner from either conference)
4. Feast or Famine (Second-Highest-ranked Division Winner from remaining conference)
5. Temporary Insanity (Highest-Ranked Wild-Card Team from either conference)
6. Spirit of St. Louis (Highest-Ranked Wild-Card Team from remaining conference)
7. Southern Sting (Second-Highest-ranked Wild-Card Team from either conference, based on 1799-1769 edge in total points - no head-to-head matchup)
8. Hail Mary (Second-Highest-ranked Wild-Card Team from remaining conference)

The GOOFBALL Playoffs Draft will be held at the home of Gary Bartley.  It will be on Friday night at 6:00 pm.  See you there!

(MyFantasyLeague.com Fantasy Times Sources - Dec 28, 2008) In a week 17 GOOFBALL Fantasy Football intra-divisional matchup, Feast or Famine beat a strong The Silverback team by a score of 86 to 66, behind the support of 69,489 faithful fans.  Feast or Famine claimed first place in the Curly Division with the win.

Feast or Famine were led to their 20 point victory by a 31 point effort from the Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Team. With this performance, the Steelers was the number 2 ranked defensive team for week 17. They also got help from a 12 point effort from Roddy White, who snuck past the St. Louis Rams defense for 48 receiving yards and 1 receiving td.

"We made our own breaks," Feast or Famine coach James Moreno said.

The Silverback were helped out in a losing cause by a 23 point effort from Lance Moore, who got by the Carolina Panthers defense for 91 receiving yards and 2 receiving tds. With this performance, Moore was the number 5 ranked wide receiver for week 17. They also got help from a 19 point effort from San Diego Chargers.

"Give them all the credit," The Silverback coach Bill Welby said.

Adding salt to the wound, The Silverback could have scored 129 points and gotten the win with their best lineup, but Bill Welby left key players like the Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Team and his corresponding 38 points on the bench.  Getting zero points each from Pierre Thomas and T.J. Houshmandzadeh didn't help much, either.

Feast or Famine took advantage of their schedule this week, as their point total would have gone for a loss against 11 out of 14 other potential opponents in week 17.

This brings the record for Feast or Famine to 9-8, and drops The Silverback to a record of 8-9.  Feast or Famine will advance to the Fantasy Playoffs, while The Silverback will have the next seven months to wonder what went wrong.
